Impromptu Magic Show!!

Local Sunnyslope teen and Criss Angel fan gave an impromptu magic show performance at Acacia. Using cards and other gimmicks this talented teen kept a group of children spellbound for over thirty minutes. This Sunnyslope magician who calls his magic show Mindtap is currently signed up to do a free magic show on July 15th at 3:00 at Acacia. We hope this happens! Criss Angel, watch out!

Jam Session @ Teen Central

An urgent notice to all teens who play an instrument or would like to! On July 2 and 9 from 2-4 PM, Teen Central at Burton Barr library will be hosting an awesome musical free-for all. Bring your instrument if you have one; if not, that's OK because we will have some stuff for you to use. We should have a couple of guitars, a bass, and a drum set for any interested people to mess around with. Pick something up, play it for awhile, and pass it on to someone else!! This session will also be recorded for posterity.

It doesn't matter if you have never played before or if you are a hugely talented showoff, all are welcome at this event. Just bring your ability to have fun!

Mesquite Library Summer Reading Program

For the summer of 2008, the Mesquite Library, once again, holds the summer reading program, Read Your Way to the Ballpark. We have a big number of teens helping out this summer, and we are excited to be a part of the summer volunteer program this summer. The prizes for the program include a sticker prize, a rubber duck prize (with a variety of ducks to choose from), a puzzle prize, and a monkey in a barrel prize plus a bonus D-Backs ticket. The grand prize drawing is for a $50 Target gift card. The teen program has a good variety of prizes, also. They include gift certificates to Wendy's, Sonic, Chic-Fil-A (did I spell that right?), and other assorted resterants. The grand prize drawing is a spot to be a guest DJ on 95.1 Latino Vibe. You get a VIP ticket to a party upon completion of the reading program and a raffle ticket to win a video MP3 player. I think it will be an exciting summer at the Mesquite Library, and I hope all other libraries will have an exciting summer as well. 5 year volunteer.

Twilight Comic Contest!

Do you love the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer? If so, be sure to enter Teen Central's Twilight comic/art contest.

Create a vampire- or werewolf-themed comic in honor of the Twilight series. All styles (pencil drawing, ink, painting, digital) and skill levels are welcome. You can come to Teen Central to pick up comic templates, make your own, or create your comic using a site like Stripcreator, Toondoo, or Strip Generator. Your comic can have as many panels as you want, or just fill up a page with a single scene! It's entirely up to you, just be creative and have fun.

All entries will be displayed in Teen Central. The top three
entries will receive a Harkins Prize pack, which will include Harkins
cups, popcorn coupons, and passes to see the Twilight movie when it is
released in December (or any other movie).

The winners will be announced at the Twilight Party on July 16, 2008
and will have their comics displayed on Teen Central's Myspace page.

This contest is open to everyone ages 12-18. Deadline for entry is July 10. Bring your entries to the Teen desk at Burton Barr Central Library! We are looking forward to seeing them.

Balloon Animals! =]

Volunteers to the extreme!
we had 150 out of control kids lined up wanting impossible shapes and 3 teens overcame this amazing obstacle in one hour. They succeeded in pleasing all the impaient/rude rascals and were exhausted. After being bombarded and with no choice, they pumped, twisted, and formed all 200 and up balloon animals.
which the three teens{which shall no be named} had learned to make these animals in 20 minutes! 0_o ^_^ we rocked!

Clown Magic

Is what we did Tuesday, June 3. Retired police officer, Mark Ruffennach, preformed mind-boggling magic tricks for us at Mesquite Branch. He entered the library as a normal guy and left as a hobo clown. Sadly there was a death during his perfomance. During his act with his trained pet fly, he clapped along with the audience as he absent mindedly squashed the fly between his hands. Luckily the fly was imaginary. His next trick he used three different sized ropes and made them all equal without the use of scissors, knives, or any other cutting instrument. He put a needle through a balloon without it popping. He then blew bubbles and caught one from the air. For his final trick he portrayed a dramatizing magic light show. Oh, and about the skunk he threatens the kids to be quiet or he'll spray an awful aroma!!!! THATS MAGIC!!???!!
